First 4 Figures Shadow Display Figure - Great!
Item of the week?
Why, yes it IS the F4F Shadow Display figure!
It just seems like any time First 4 Figures does anything, it's always awesome. Their Shadow is no exception, with their wonderful photos and great choice of what to have light up on it. (his hover shoes) The light is really appropriate (doesn't feel...shoe-horned in...yes expression--unlike Tails with the mushrooms) His city location type base (Radical Highway) is a great choice too, he seemed really in his element there in the games so that's good.
Shadow was a great pick as their 2nd modern figure.
Looking at the overview, they could have chosen someone else, but really he's the only logical one. Naturally Modern Sonic HAD to be first on their modern line. However, whoever was next had to be someone with NO classic incarnation at all. Shadow is the most popular person who was never classic, so here he goes. And he looks GREAT. This one, expensive as it is, is a must-have for Shadow fans. Just look at that reflection on his eye! It's JUST like in the games!
Whether it's light up or not, this figure is fantastic. F4F really knows how to quality sculpt awesome dynamic poses. Even if Shadow isn't your fave, you've got to appreciate how good he looks here. They always take really good photos, even in the dark so visiting the F4F website is a good idea.
Who's next?
It's fun to speculate who's next on their modern line. Will they choose Silver? Blaze? Will they ever get around to an Eggman statue? Or will they revisit someone like Tails or Knuckles? How about Amy?

Wheel Toys: What's up with that?
What is the big deal about the wheel? There are a strange amount of "wheel toys" where you are launching some kind of disk or wheel along the ground. There are simple fast food meal toys that roll disks, and buy-able more complex ones that do the same. Now, Jazwares has produced a "Stunt Wheel" launcher pair that supposedly launches more wheels at high speed.
Just what is the purpose of this? It's not even a car! It's just 1 wheel!
What stunts do you do with them? Do you roll it on your hotwheels track? Do you shoot them at your siblings? Build a ramp? And then what? It's confusing to me because out of all the 'fun games' and generalized things to do in the world spinning tiny wheels across the floor doesn't seem to rank that high on the fun scale. They're not even that decorative / collectible looking. Maybe I'm missing the boat...er...wheel?
More about Sonic Lost World:
The SonicGear blog isn't a game blog but with news starting to trickle, it's worth posting a bit. The 6 "new characters" have been revealed to all be enemies specific to the "Lost World" of hexagon shaped land. It makes sense that there's 6, (on hexagon land) and that each one is a different color. Last week's blog post had an article link, so here is an article paste (in case the original gets taken down)

""'Sonic' video games coming to Nintendo
'Sonic Lost World' announced for Wii U"
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Sonic the Hedgehog is rolling with Nintendo. SEGA says it will exclusively release THE NEXT THREE GAMES starring the popular blue critter ON NINTENDO PLATFORMS. The first title will be called "Sonic Lost World", and is set for release on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS later this year.
"With Sonic Lost World,' we're going to introduce new new gameplay and enemies, which is always fun," said John Cheng, president and chief financial officer of SEGA of America Inc. "In terms of Sonic and his friends, he'll have his same friends there, and I think there'll be some new ones as well. It's not a reiteration. It's going to be all new."
The original fast-paced side-scrolling "Sonic the Hedgehog" debuted in 1991. The twirling, ring-hoarding hedgehog became SEGA's mascot and a video-game icon rivaling the likes of Mario and Pac-Man.
"The onetime rivalry between Mario and Sonic has grown into a friendship that has never been closer," said Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime in a statement. "These announcements in conjunction with SEGA demonstrate the commitment we have to bringing great games to the Wii U platform, and set the stage for our upcoming announcements at E3."
Sonic has competed against Nintendo's mustachioed spokesman Mario since 2007 in the "Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games" minigame series. Cheng said the characters would be back for more match-ups in "Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games."
Last fall, Nintendo launched the next generation of gaming consoles with the Wii U, which comes with a tabletlike controller called the "Gamepad." Nintendo said last March it has sold 3.45 million units worldwide, a disappointing start for the first of a new generation of gaming systems. SEGA's Cheng believes bringing Sonic exclusively to the Wii U will help Nintendo.
"It should be a win-win situation," said Cheng. "Don't count Nintendo out."
